What to expect while you’re expecting a puppy!

It’s a very exciting time, but it can also be a bit overwhelming. Here’s what you can expect, week to week.

Weeks 0-2

Our main focus is making sure Mama and babies are healthy and all getting enough to eat. Their weights are tracked very closely.

Puppies are very fragile! We try to post daily updates and photos on social media, most photos will be group photos of sleeping and nursing puppies as we don’t handle puppies much at this stage.

They like to sleep in a puppy pile for warmth and comfort so individual photos are tough at this age. We attempt individual photos or a short video of each puppy around 7-10 days so you can see their markings.

Weeks 2-4

Transitional Period: At this age puppies eyes and ears open, puppies begin to lap liquids and start to toddle. Puppies are starting to sit up and walk at this age! That means it’s time to start our pre-potty training and start our socialization period. We also start to post more individual photos of puppies as the puppies become more mobile and Mama takes more breaks away from the puppy nursery.

This is when Breeder and Stud picks happen if puppies are being held back. We don’t always keep back puppies, we are looking for very specific coat types and color panels.

Weeks 3.5-4.5

First family visits!

We will send out a link to sign up for puppy visits, you will sign up for the day that works best for you. You will not lose your spot in line if you can't visit, so don’t worry. We also do facetime visits.

These visits are just so you can meet us and meet all the puppies, people rarely get to pick out their puppy at their visit unless they are one of the first families on the list.

Once everyone has visited, it’s time to pick a puppy! Puppy picks happen in order of deposit received, to keep it fair. When your turn comes you will be presented with the available puppies.

If there’s no puppy available that fits your gender preference or coat/color type you can wait for a future litter or we can refund your deposit.

Weeks 4.5-8

At this point you’ve been matched with your puppy or have decided to wait till the next litter, in which case you will move up the waitlist. We will send you puppy prep emails that will have a lot of great info such as food, crate size, supplies, training, pretty much everything you'll need to prepare for your pup. If you’re anxious to buy supplies here are some of our favorites puppy supplies.

We post daily updates of puppies on social media. This is when we really start to socialize your puppy. They are exposed to new sounds, textures, toys and experiences daily. We work on grooming, we do car rides and field trips! We take them into town, or do a hospital visit as part of the Puppy Love Project. They will meet well over 100 people before 8 weeks!

Our goal is to give your puppy as many positive experiences as possible and to help them gain confidence.

All of these things we work on help make confident, cuddly puppies that are very trainable and ready to join you at 8 weeks of age! Our puppies transition very well into their families. They usually potty and crate train pretty quickly and they all LOVE people and kids!
